Author-composer Laraine Elizabeth Turner, who''s debut action-thriller, "The Rise and Fall of the Witch on the Bayou," can now add "poet" on her resume. Ms. Turner was recently selected as a semi-finalist in the "Poetry.com" international poetry contest for her poem, "Love is Not Defied."

Turner is very excited about being a recognized and soon-to-be published international poet. She explains that the emotional words to her poem, "Love is Not Defied," are actually lyrics to a song she composed at the age of 12, while caring for baby brothers in Indiana.
"I give God all the glory," she says. I felt it was a smart move to submit "Love is Not Defied" on the Internet in this international poetry contest in hopes of gaining attention for myself as a songwriter. Another "poem" of mine (which also are lyrics to a song she composed only about two years ago)--"The Thorns of the Rose"--is poised to be published under another poetry competition as well.
"I realized innately that most of the songs I compose--when I write the lyrics--are very poetic in nature. But to be recognized as a poet in itself is very, very exciting," Turner contends.
More details on the coffee-table, hard-bound book that will feature her poems will be announced at a later date.
