The proofs for Boston Mountains: Lost In The Ozarks recently arrived for edits. The book looks fabulous with photos that date back into the late 1800s as well as recent ones set throughout the stories. I finished the edits on my part and returned the proof.
The good news is that the book is scheduled for release in March, 2010. I know readers will have a good time following me to all the old, lost communities as I've included directions for each and every one that can be reached now. There are so many stories from these remote locations that there'll be something for everyone.
Tales of famous folks who came out of our mountains include our current president, outlaws of old, governors and folk heroes. I've arranged to launch the book from the very heart of the Boston Mountains. The gorgeous gem of a lake at Lake Ft. Smith State Park will host the launch. Appearances will also include historical societies, libraries and book stores all over the four-county area covered by the book.
I'm thrilled to be working with Old American Publishing in Houston, TX to bring this book to you. After years of gathering stories and photos and searching for a publisher, I am privileged that these fine folks have stepped forward to work with me.
The second book: Arkansas Meals and Memories: Lift Your Eyes to the Mountains, will be released around the same time from Gold Minds Publishing in Springfield, MO.
This book will feature stories from growing up in the Ozarks set alongside about 150 authentic Boston Mountain Recipes, some that date back to the late 1880s. The recipes are arranged in meals, featuring favorite foods from those long ago days during a two week period of three meals a day, plus specials for the holidays and Decoration. It also includes some old sayings and beliefs, as well as tips for canning, making soap and using what grows around us in everyday life.
An exciting book launch is being planned to take place in Fayetteville. More about that later as our plans come together.
The book will be released along with several other books from Gold Minds including one from Ellen Gray Massey and another from W. C. Jameson. I'm equally thrilled to be involved with such great writers and such a super publisher.
