With respect to the upcoming set of educational children's picture books I have been advertising on Author's Den, to be released by Journey Stone Creations; I'm afraid there has been an abrupt and surprising change of plans.
The set of four books, collectively titled Forest Friends, is set to a rhyming scheme and each one contains a valuable childhood lesson. The upbeat rhymes, colorful illustrations, and consistent forest animal characters assist in making these easy-reading stories fun and memorable for children ages four to eight. The books stress such issues as friendship and sharing, found in the first book, County Fair, while other stories highlight the importance of teamwork, the acceptance of new siblings, learning can be fun, etc. They assist parents, teachers, and caregivers in conveying some universal lessons while sparking young imaginations. However, regarding their publication with Journey Stone Creations, the contracts have been cancelled. According to the submissions department, the company has decided to release authors, in favor of changing formats. My series of four had contracts in place for the first and second books, with County Fair originally scheduled for release in March 2007, then pushed back to May of this year, and School Days set to debut in the fall, to coincide with a new school year. Letters of intent had been issued for the remaining two books, with plans to follow in 2008. Despite the contractual agreements in place since May of 2006, and County Fair already listed on Amazon.com for orders, the company has decided it will no longer publish books for the general marketplace, and will instead pursue custom-made projects. This comes as a huge surprise, considering County Fair was due out this month, yet I am hearing about the change just today, May 30th/07. Since all details have yet to be received, and legal counsel is imminent, further information is pending before it can posted on the site. For those of you that have already inquired about the books, I will do my best to keep you updated, and I apologize sincerely for the unexpected turn of events.
