| Had a perfect day yesterday & want to share the experience. |
Yesterday I attended our monthly Iowa Edsel Club meeting in Greenfield Iowa, about 50 miles from where I live. The day was gorgeous, a warm 75 degrees, sunshine filled and displaying trees and bushes bursting with colors only God can paint. We gathered in an old hotel turned into a restaurant. The company was good the surroundings great. We chose Greenfield because we all wanted to visit the Patriotic Rock and this day we were priviledged to talk with the young painter of this marvelous Iowa attraction. I am including a link so you may view this rock which Ray (Bubba) Sorensen paints differently every May. The link will also take you to his website and his story of how he got started painting the rock and why he has continued. The rock was moved from a nearby quarry and is so massive that it broke the crane trying to move it and instead it was shoved to its current position leaving a large groove in the road that had to quickly be repaired. If you ever travel through Iowa by way of Interstate 80 pull off the road at the Guthrie exit and turn in the opposite direction toward Greenfield on highway 25. The Patriotic Rock is less than 2 miles off Interstate 80 and you will find this to be a worth while detour. Seeing the Rock and visiting with Ray (Bubba) Sorensen made my day very special. http://www.bubbazartwork.com/ Beverly J Scott
