| For the second year in a row, an article by Lynn Maria Thompson won the award for best article of the year from Promoting Outstanding Writers. |
"Targeting Cancer More Effectively", an article which ran in spring and summer issues of North Florida Doctor and Mature Matters magazines, won the award for Article of the Year from Promoting Outstanding Writers (POW!) in November.
The article profiles the new Proton Therapy Institute at Shands Jacksonville, one of only four in the nation, and the efforts behind its being built in the city.
Says Thompson, "I was up against stiff competition from some truly outstanding writers in a variety of genres, and this is a great honor."
This marks the second year one of Thompson's articles has won POW!'s top award for articles. In 2005, her story entitled, "Bored With the Outdoors? Try Another Kind of Board" was also recognized. Written for North Florida Doctor magazine, the article profiled several local doctors involved in windsurfing and kiteboarding.
Promoting Outstanding Writers (POW!) was founded in 2005 by noted author Caryn Day-Suarez as a promotional organization for writers and other artists pursuing creative professions. For more information, visit the POW! website at pow100.com.
