People of the World: Spotlight Interview
What is your name? Vernon J. Davis Jr.
Where are you from? I was born in Wilmington Delaware but grew up in Riverside, California.
What is your profession and educational background? I have 2 years of college and I was in sales&marketing in the automotive glass industry until recently.
What is your mission? My mission--to put God first(PGF) in everything I do and to be just, courteous, and kind to everyone I meet.
What are your long range and short range goals and objectives? My long range goals is to continue writing as long as God allows me to & to constantly improve my craft. My short range goals & objectives are to finish my 2nd poetry book & my 1st screenplay by February 2007. Hopefully.
How do you plan to accomplish your goals? I have a daily schedule set up for writing. But, because I've been spending alot of time promoting my book, "Love,Is, The Beautiful Black Woman"--I've kinda neglected the writing part of my schedule. That's why I said hopefully.
What do you see yourself doing five years from now? Ten years from now? Living my dream--writing full-time!
How do you determine or evaluate success? Success to me is when I complete a project wheter or not if it's a success money wise. I like the creative process of writing and when I complete a poem or a story--I feel successful! I really do leave it in God's hands as far as material success is concerned.
What inspires you? Nowadays---Beautiful Black Women & my son. The women because I know I gain my strength & spiritual insight from them. And my son because he makes me laugh.
What is your opinion of the world today? The world needs inspiration---a spiritual overhaul. Conflict & condeming each other is not the answer. We are all in need & lacking of love. None of us should pretend to be God. Our lives really are not our own.
What is your contribution to society? Right now--just my poetry book. more in the future.
What is your idea of happiness? Being alone with my thoughts, knowing God is right there with me. When I'm by myself, I feel the best. So I guest I'm a hermit, But a happy one when alone in my skin.
Are you doing what you really want to do in life? Right now--yes!! Before it was just a dream just beyond the horizon.
What do you consider to be your greatest strengths and weaknesses? My greatest strength is I'm disciplined when I"m involved in my work, but I'm easily distracted which is my weakness. And I love to sleep--naps, whatever. Not good when I have work to do do.
How would a good friend describe you? A kind open-minded person. my good friend saids I'm too kind. Too willing to trust anyone.
Are religious or spiritual beliefs a vital part of your life? Definitely!!!
Is there anything else that you would like readers to know about you? Only that I am truly grateful to be here at this point of my life & watching my dream unfold. I am in total awe every morning I wake up & I just want to do more & do better, all by the grace of God!
Respectfully yours, VIOLETTE L. REID www.VioletteReid.com Never let go of loyalness and faithfulness, tie them around your neck; write them on your heart. If you do this, both GOD and man will be pleased with you. Proverbs 3:3-4
