Press Release – For Immediate Release
AUTHOR MAKES LOCAL BESTSELLER LIST FOR 2006 DUE TO HER OUT OF THE BOX STYLE SIGNINGS
With only four days remaining in the month of October, Horror Author, Kristy Tallman launched her debut novel The All-Soul’s Faire at Richmond’s premier genre specialty bookstore, and she had to make a lot of sales to surpass greats such as Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story or Norah Robert’s Dance of the Gods, whose books were release earlier in the month and had more time to make the cut; but SHE DID IT!
Creatures ‘n Crooks Bookshoppe, who specializes in Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Suspense and Horror sponsored Tallman’s launch party and a party it was. Tallman sold enough books to make her the best seller in her genre, horror, for the month of October and put her in the top 40 for the year of 2006. Creatures ‘n Crooks has been in business since 2000 and is highly respected by the authors who have the opportunity to share their signings at Lelia’s shop.
“It's nice for both of us when an author makes a good showing, she did very well for a debut novel, ASF was our #1 best seller for October and came in at #35 for the year, that’s impressive to say the least.” said Lelia T. Taylor, owner of CNC.
“I couldn’t believe it when I got the numbers in! I only had a couple of days to make that list and to beat Stephen King, whose book was released Oct. 3 was bittersweet. Then to find out with only two months to compete I made it into the top 40, you couldn’t smack the grin off my face!” said Tallman, adding, “I couldn’t get any of the media outlets in this town to even recognize my press releases, print my events, review my book and they wouldn’t even print anything about the fund raisers we were doing for our local chapter of the Blue Knights. It upset me but in the end when the numbers came in I was the one smiling – I was on top and it made it feel all the sweeter! I did it in spite of them and it was just as I promised I would in an earlier release that never got printed. I do have to recognize Virginia This Morning that airs on CBS locally they were the only one who gave me the time of day – many thanks your way!”
Tallman has done book signings in the oddest of places but because of this she has sold over 400 books in 2 months and that doesn’t account for her online and other bookstore sales in both the US and Internationally. She started with Creatures N Crooks, an adventure she shared with Hamilton The Cat, the shop’s mascot, sitting atop her table the entire signing. Her MySpace friends showed up in full glory where she did most of her networking and marketing from May of 2006 until the book was released and the bounty of folks kept showing up when she did a Tattoo Convention, a pizzeria, coffee shops, hair salons and then in memory of her daughter she signed books while she received a self portrait tattoo that was her daughter’s last piece of artwork.
“It was an event to support the arts of all walks and also to benefit our local chapter of the Blue Knights who do nothing but help people in their times of need. I’ll never forget what they did for me and that is why every sale from the 2006-2007 All-Soul’s Faire Tour, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to them. I’m waiting for their next meeting to present them with a check and I hope to do so every chance I get.”
And many chances she will get because Tallman is expected to do at least six conventions this year including an exclusive invite by Horror Author, Nicholas Grabowsky, to The World Horror Convention in Canada (March 31-Apirl 1) where she will sit with him as one of his special guests. Grabowsky’s work which includes Halloween IV and whose work has been saluted by Clive Barker, Stephen King and other greats and is known worldwide for his horror and fantasy fiction.
“She needs to be where the best are and I want to take her there. I plan to introduce her to the cream of the crop. She’s got all the elements it takes to make a number one best selling author and with a bit more experience under her belt she will be there. I’m not surprised that she’s done so well in such a short time, in the long run though I know it won’t just be a local thing, she’s going nationwide.” said Grabowsky.
