New York City, River Point and Ridgeburgh, New York - Present Day
Lauren Phelps is a homicide detective with the NYPD. Dedicated, driven to prove just how good she is as a cop, Lauren has little or no time for a personal life. On occasion, fellow officers make light-hearted passes at her or express concern that she works too hard.
Lieutenant Tom McNulty, who took her under his wing when she made detective, values Lauren's insights and cool, level head when it comes to details. She has learned much from him about being a detective, and he has every confidence in her. They are currently investigating the death of Tammy Lucas.
The sixth murder victim since the new year began turns up in the town of Ridgeburgh. The body of a young co-ed from St. Mary's College, Renee Wilson, is found in the woods, and Lieutenant Eddie Tennellie is frustrated. When it appears that the deaths of Tammy Lucas and Renee Wilson may be related, Lauren and Eddie meet.
He is not impressed with her. As he comes to know her, he realizes, like all her other male co-workers, that she is more than competent at her job. But the tug of attraction is there, and both find it difficult to resist the pull. Eddie's wife was raped and murdered four years ago. He is not ready for another relationship, and Lauren does not date other policemen.
As their cases merge and it becomes obvious that there is a sick individual at work who rapes and tortures his victims, Lauren and Eddie find attraction turning to desire and irresistible passion that startles them and lets Eddie begin to heal. But the killer has Lauren in his sights.
Cop's Daughter 2: LAUREN is a detailed, character driven story. There are several secondary characters who provide expertise in solving the crimes against the young women who lost their lives and seeing that justice is secured. Danger is all around and the places and people are so tangible, I feel that I would recognize them. It is also a tale of teamwork, family ties, and traditions that bind those who serve and protect together. Laura Marie Henion has delivered a realistically plotted, tautly-written, heart-pounding, at times gruesome, action filled-book. I am keeping LAUREN.
