Central Victoria's literary community is celebrating the recent success of local poet/writer Lorraine Marwood after she won the prestigious '2010 Prime Minister's Literature Award - Category: Children's Literature' last month for her verse novel 'Star Jumps' (the award comes with a $100,000 prize). Lorraine's much deserved success comes after many years of hard work as a poet and editor of poetry (Lorraine has long co-edited the UK literary journal 'Tears in the Fence'.)
I wish her all the very best with future publications and hope that the prize winning book sells many copies both here and overseas!
Who says Poetry doesn't pay? Who says you have to live in the city to gain national recognition as a writer?
Lorraine's success illustrates the vibrancy of Central Victoria's literary community (which Lorraine has long contributed to) at present with many of our writers and poets now attaining national and international recognition. |
