An Earth Divided: Crucified For Caring
Monday, February 05, 2007  9:48:00 AM

by Share Bond

Nature
A synopsis of another one of Share Bond''s books. It tells about the imbalance in the world where those that are cruel to animals get off easy and those that fight to protect the Earth and her inhabitants are crucified.

Synopsis of

AN EARTH DIVIDED: CRUCIFIED FOR CARING

By Share Bond

I dedicate this book to the countless
heroes who have perished in our fight
to save the animals and our environment,
and to those who still battle.

I honor the animals who have been killed or died due to ignorance and cruelty. Your blood has not spilled in vain. The lessons learned are Earth’s only hope for all future generations.

INTRODUCTION

The validity of our acts today will be judged by people who will not be born in our lifetime. I am confident that history will absolve the animal welfare workers, the conservationists, and the animal rights movement of the accusations and the libels of the public relations companies and doctors representing government and industry.

The fate of the animals being killed in the wild will be resolved by either being saved and allowed to coexist in peace with humanity, or they will be exterminated by the human race. Our greed, growing population, pollution, and destruction of habitats will never allow the perpetuation of the myth of “unsustainable harvest”.

It is our desire to see the cruelty to animals ended forever. If this is an unreasonable attitude, then we would rather be considered unreasonable than to compromise the life of another living creature, or the right of a species to survive.

Slavery was once illegal, and those that helped the slaves escape were arrested.  Now those people are considered heroes.  We have come to understand that the slaves were "human" and deserved rights too.  Some day all animal advocates will be considered heroes, as more and more people come to realize that animals are thinking, feeling beings too.  What is legally right, and what is morally right are often two different things.

This book is beneficial for anyone who dares to try to make a positive change in the world for all of its inhabitants, or for those who just want to read about it and support those who dare. It exposes the Goliath monsters we have to come up against, and how brave all of the "David's" are.

This book gives examples of, and praise to, those that have succeeded and how they accomplished their goals, regardless of the huge obstacles they encountered.

In Chapter 1, THE PUNISHED - UNSUNG HEROES.

Well-known people - celebrities, researchers and authors, as well as unknown animal and environmental activists are covered. A few are Paul Watson, Cleveland Amory, Chris DeRose, Steve Hindi, Farley Mowat, Dian Fossey, Erin Brockovich, Howard Lyman, Julia ‘Butterfly’ Hill, Jane Tipson, John Munsell, James Cromwell, Woody Harrelson, Robert Redford, Martin Sheen, Ted Danson, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., as well as other animal rights leaders, and various wildlife and domestic animal rescuers.

In this chapter you will learn about how these animal rescue and environmental heroes are too often abused by their government, big business and the legal system for exercising their rights, and for trying to make positive changes in the world by drawing attention to terrible wrong-doings and laws that are not being enforced properly, or at all.

All of these heroes acted on humanitarian grounds.

In Chapter 2, THE UNPUNISHED - ANIMAL CRUELTY.

Such cases are discussed in detail as well as the unfair punishment. Also shown are reports of high-profile criminals from police case files that show the animal/human cruelty connection.

Why do those that torture and massacre whales, dolphins, and every other species of animal on earth illegally go unpunished? What good are animal cruelty statutes if no one enforces them? Who should enforce them?

We need to get tough on animal cruelty. Although animal cruelty statutes are asking for more strict punishment for cruel acts against animals, and it has improved over the years, we still have a very long way to go.

When the punishment is way too lenient, what is this teaching the offender? That it is no big deal to do it again. What is this teaching their children? That they can get away with it too.

The examples given in the book are such horrendous crimes that have happened over the last few years, and when you see what kind of charges were given, you will be outraged.

In Chapter 3, WHY ARE ANIMAL ADVOCATES AND RESCUERS PERSECUTED?

It discusses the psychology behind the injustices.

Animal advocates and rescuers are persecuted because of greed, ignorance, prejudism and control. They expose the truth about the horrors going on behind our backs, and how the conspiracies manipulate us into believing lies. The “system” wants us to blindly behave, to be ’good obedient children’, and to not question authority. If we were all such people, there would have never been any positive changes in the world to date.

There is a conflict between those who possess the will and means to exploit the living world to destruction and those who are banding together in a desperate, last ditch attempt to prevent the trashing of our Mother Earth.

If the right side wins, our future generations will know this combat as the Crusade that Saved the Earth. If the wrong side wins, there will not be any future generations.

What motivates people like us to serve and protect the natural world?

Why do serious environmental activists encounter such social, political and philosophical opposition?

What makes us think we can flaunt the law?

The answer is freedom. The Earth belongs to no one. This is my earth and yours. It belongs to all people, every inch of it. It belongs to the animals and plants and, if not for man’s unnatural tendency to impose absurd rules like trespass, there would be no problem. We have just as much right to protect animals as any government agent, and more of a right to protect them as they have to kill them!

Animal advocates are harassed because we expose the government agencies when they don’t enforce the laws we force them to make. We expose the conspiracy behind big business and how the government is involved.

In Chapter 4, WHO SHOULD BE IN CHARGE OF ANIMAL ISSUES?

The agencies in place are exposed, and alternatives are discussed.

I certainly do not think that the agencies that sell and condone animal killing - fishing, hunting and other forms of death and control - should be in charge of issues concerning the welfare of animals. I believe that our Native American Indians would be much better qualified because of their respect for all life and the balance of nature. This has been instilled in their belief structure throughout their history.

I don’t understand why those who wish to champion peace, life, liberty and environmental sanity are always asking the question “What gives you the right to take the law into your hands?” Why don’t you ask this of the animal abusers?

Chapter 5, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD’S PRIORITIES?

The imbalance of the laws are covered. Speciesism, racism and sexism are compared as well.

Why are brave caring people that fight to make positive changes for the Earth’s inhabitants, punished, harassed and sometimes even murdered? Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Dian Fossey, women’s liberation and gay rights leaders, Abraham Lincoln, the Kennedy’s, even Jesus Christ are a few examples!

Even our national governments condone and sanction animal cruelty in laboratories, circuses, zoos, factory farms, rodeos, so-called sporting events, etc. They take pay-offs, even look the other way when animal protectors are abused.

How can we deal with a government that is frightened for their jobs and wedded to the security of narrow-mindedness? It is time to take our vision to the people themselves - to those who are complacent that need their eyes shaken open.

Chapter 6, IT’S ALL ABOUT CONTROL

This chapter covers the conspiracy used by big industry and government to manipulate the “system” to work in their favor.

Animals don’t belong to the agencies that claim they “control” them. Animals belong to everyone equally. There are moral and spiritual laws that are more right than the so-called enforced “laws”. And why are more laws enforced against animal protectors than animal abusers?

There are too many government agencies that will instruct a citizen to kill a so-called nuisance animal, even federally-protected wildlife, if they assume that the particular animal is the culprit, but will punish people for daring to rescue one!

Chapter 7, THE CONSPIRACY - BIG BUSINESS/SMALL GOVERNMENT

This chapter covers articles about, and speeches given by, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. about “Crimes Against Nature”.

It also goes into great detail just how corrupt our government really is. With our countries’ citizens losing respect for our leaders, it is no wonder that there is a severe imbalance in our judicial system and so much crime. This is the root of all that is wrong in our country, right down to the child torturing a defenseless animal.

CONCLUSION

What we must do is to change our perceptions and open our eyes. After all, animals inhabited this world way before us. What right have we to abuse and enslave them to 'improve' our lives? Lawmakers must be made aware of this connection between animal cruelty and interpersonal violence, and laws changed to detect, rehabilitate or punish animal abusers. Humane education should be practiced in schools. Pets should be treated as members of the family, not as an inferior species. Children should be taught to respect all animals, then they will too respect all life. Right now, we should increase awareness of this connection between animal cruelty and interpersonal violence. Imagine if people were taught this fact, how many animal and human lives could have been saved.

We should also give more credence and respect to those that are caretakers of Mother Earth and all of her creatures. The value of those individuals and organizations that rescue, rehabilitate, fight for, and educate about those that they care for are an extremely important public service. The majority work for no pay, with their volunteer work having a more spiritual value. Regardless, they save government agencies considerable monies and time for work that they should be doing, and save billions in tax dollars accumulatively.

They should not be harassed, but should be supported. Even the little old lady with too many cats that she’s trying to rescue, should be able to turn to the government for help when she gets in over her head, instead of raiding and shutting her down. Even those who have their hearts in the right place, can get overwhelmed, but instead they are treated with scorn. There is no assistance, and no second chances.

Wildlife rehabilitators are even being discriminated against - the general public (who has no training whatsoever or proper handling tools or caging) can keep any wild animal in their home, any type of cage, transport them, handle them, etc. for a certain period of time until they can get it to a licensed facility. It’s called the “Good Samaritan Act”. But if a trained wildlife rehabilitator does the same thing, if they don’t have a permit yet, they get into trouble!

All of the animal abuse cases listed in the book, and more, should shake the souls of all of us who have been given stewardship over all creatures, great and small. And it should shake the Legislature and the Judiciary to pass a no-nonsense animal cruelty statute for the whole country.

Until that law is on the books, local judges should do more than slap guilty offenders on the wrist. Follow the law as it now exists.

The defenseless among us, and their owners, deserve that protection. The findings don't lie. Without swift action against those who abuse animals, our courts are liable to see those abusers again, but with human blood on their hands.

So we will continue to stand for what we believe in, and continue to refuse to back down and go away. No person, business or government has the right to destroy the gift of life. No one has the right to steal from the future in order to make a quick buck today. Enough is enough. It’s time we as humans return to living only off the Earth’s interest instead of drawing from the principal. And it’s time we restored some of the capital investment that we’ve already stolen.

It is our responsibility to stand up for the life we’ve recklessly squandered, no matter what the consequences. So we’ll continue to hold the light strong even in the midst of total darkness.

We will continue to hold Creation’s love in our hearts, actions, words, truth and very thoughts. We are human, so we will stumble and even fall, but will pick ourselves back up again and hold on to love for all it’s worth and try again.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Some of my volunteer work for other groups has been with The Orangutan Foundation, Intl. (where I studied the orangutan in Borneo with Birute Galdikas); The Ark Trust (help with the annual Genesis Awards, a huge celebrity black-tie gala that awards those that generate positive messages about animals in the media); The American Cetacean Society (tour guide taking the public out whale watching off the California coast); and Wildlife Waystation (orphan care, primate enrichment, tour guide, fundraising, outreach programs, etc.).

I then started my own organizations - S.K.U.N.K.S. (Society of Kind Understanding for Not Killing Skunks); Protect R Wildlife (an animal advocacy group); C.A.R.E.S. (California Animal REScue); and many new programs - Neighborhood Watch 4 Animals, Wildlife Shui, and TNR+.

I love the wilderness and its inhabitants, and it is this love that sustains me. In the innocent eye of a baby skunk, in the mournful face of a dying animal, in the songs of the forests, in the free flight of birds and the ingenuity of spiders, I see the salvation of the Earth and even of our own species.

When sitting in the forest, I feel the film covering my senses from the imbalance of our fast-paced, technologically-dependent society melt away. I could feel my whole being bursting forth into new life in this majestic cathedral. These majestic ancient places, which are the holiest of temples, housed more spirituality than any church.

When dealing with the harsh world, my first reaction was to want to strike out like an animal that’s hurt or afraid. I wanted to stop the violence, the pain, the suffering. I had hate for everything, even for myself because I was disgusted that I was part of a race of people with such a lack of respect and for having been part of such a society for so long.

We humans are supposed to become food for the earth when we die, but we encase ourselves in coffins and other ways that will keep us from being part of the cycle.

We have to realize that the fragmentation of our planet is affecting the quality of life for everyone and everything. Political and private property boundaries are destroying nature by dividing it up into separate pieces that don’t make any sense. We must find ways to fit our lives into the natural ecosystems and watersheds.

Being among animal advocates, or anyone fighting to make the world a better place, makes me feel wrapped in a warm blanket of love and commitment.

I have had the privilege of working with many of the animal advocates and rescuers. Their endless assistance and devotion to improving the lives of animals on our planet has stimulated my efforts to address animal issues and made those efforts more rewarding than I originally believed was possible. I thank you for your efforts.
