Using public speaking as a tool

| How we can use public speaking as a tool to find descriptiona and promote our works. |
I have been working to educate as many people as I can about the affects of child abduction and child abuse. I do not try and promote my writing when I speak. I have a true need to change the way others view children during and after an abduction.
Recently I have began working with a group that deals with this issue on an international platform. I have noticed that after I speak I am asked if i have a book or am writing one. I have found this subject somewhat difficult to approach. Yet in that moment I see the dynamics of what is going on like I am watching a movie.
What I am saying is that it is okay to promote your work in public IF, if it has relevance, and look at the sceen or the room you are in when you are being asked these questions. Maybe you can see some "description" and a new short story.
