| Some recent events in this writer's life |
Well it has been a while since I have been able to put anything on this site. Don't get me wrong, I've wanted to but been horribly busy.
LIke all writers I am trying to finnish my manuscript and get it submitted to a publisher. At the same time I have been busy working with a number of different groups to promote Child Abduction Awareness. I can offer to any writer the advice that speaking in public can help us as a writer expand. You learn to take critisism and write speaches on the fly.
This past week the National Center for the Missing and Exploited Children held a luncheon in Austin, Texas to celebrate their first regional office. I was given a special guest invitation and after a long debate I decided to attend. On the same day the State of Texas House of Representaives had a special commitee meeting on a new House Bill covering Parental Abduction. I was extrememly happy to find out i would be allowed to testify in favor of the Bill. This Bill is a wonderful and great step toward protecting our children.
At the Luncheon it was like a reunion of friends and peers involved in Child Protection. I felt very much at ease going into this reception. Secret Service was all about. The First Lady, Gov. Perry's wife, the State Attorney General and Senator K. Hutchinson were all present.
Sen. Hutchinson has been working with Sen. Fienstein on a new law to protect children from family abduction. It was great to hear her talk about family abduction since it has always played a lesser role nationally. Sadly, Family based abduction accounts for 78% of all abduction and 1/4 of children are never seen again. Now that is 50,000 children each year never seen again from family kidnapping.
Okay, back to the news...
I was able to meet many people involved in this fight I had not never met before. I was very pleased to find out that the Director for the National Center had heard of me. I bug everyone I can. LOL.
Later that day I was given the chance to testify and that by far was the most humbling experience of my life. As an activist for child protection, a former law enfocement officer and most importantly... a former victim of child abduction. Thursday I had a two hour interview at Austin High School and out of that there will be a cd/dvd documentary made.
Anyways, that is what is up and I hope my typos did not scare you off. It's been a busy month.
Take care
