I am sitting here very upset and rightfully angry. Two year ago I began a new path in my life.My new book, Throwing Stones, covers the crime of Parental Alienation Syndrome and Parental Child Abduction. In less than two weeks from its release I have started getting harassing and threatening phone calls and emails.
I decided to go public after realizing nothing had changed in the twenty-five years post my abduction.Taking the charge to tell my story and give a face to this type of crime was not an easy decision. Although I expected a backlash after going public , I still feel the wounds.
People need to know that kidnapping their child is not the right thing to do.Although a parent may feel justified in stealing their child, the effects last a life time.I have seen and felt the pain of having my mother ripped from me.I know what it is like not to trust anyone.I know how it feels to be afraid of something you cannot name.So many times the parent or stranger abducts the child thinking they are too young to understand.
What I hope is that if you feel you have a story to tell, if you have a cause worth fighting for, stand up and do it.Writing a book or even speaking up for what you believe in is no easy task.It takes hard work and an inner strength to fight for what you believe in.I hope that by my standing up and fighting for what I believe in will help you, the reader find your inner courage to do the same. You will receive harassing phone calls, emails, letters and verbal abuse; you may even experience physical harm on your journey.Just remember one thing. You are not alone.
Never act out in anger or rage. When we do this we are no better than those who commit the crime themselves.
