Venice, late 1943 and early 1944. Gabriella Doria is a 450 year old vampire who is spying for British Intelligence against the Nazi occupiers of her country. But an SS officer named Kurt Hesselman, himself possessing occult powers, now means to destroy her once and for all. Gabriella is aided in her cat and mouse game with Hesselman by her MI6 controller, Seamus O'Neill, who also has the power of magic to aid them.
