Can Having a Baby Save Your Marriage?
Tuesday, May 01, 2007  2:08:00 PM

by Joe Sindoni

If children come into the world with the burden of saving a marriage — as many do — they sense it. When problems continue — as nearly all do — children try and fix them. When the marriage dissolves — as it likely will — children feel responsible for it.

Your marriage problems are not caused by being childless. And making a baby will not fix them. The problem is within you and your spouse. It has nothing to do with an innocent life.
Once you have a child, you will have even less time to work on these issues and more stress to compound them. And, you can add to that the hormonal changes that occur in many women during and after pregnancy.
The relationship between a mother and father has a lifelong impact on a child. The most meaningful gift parents can give a child is to be in a healthy, loving relationship.
Work on building a strong marriage first. You’ll be giving your child its best birthday present.
A child should be born into a loving environment - not expected to create it. A strong marriage can support a child - but a child can’t support a weak marriage.
