| Eighth Annual Book Festival Out to Connect Readers and Writers, will feature Authors Den Fantasy Author Sandy Lender |
For the Eighth Annual Naples Authors and Books Festival, the Naples Press Club and the Downtown Naples Association have joined forces.
The festival will be held the weekend of April 10 and 11 in downtown Naples. The book fair is on Saturday, April 10. Exhibiting authors and publishers will be paired with downtown merchants, creating a book feast along Fifth Avenue South.
Three exhibitors are scheduled in each participating merchant's location, rotating through three three-hour shifts: noon to 3 p.m., 3 to 6 p.m., and 6 to 9 p.m. With over 20 participating merchants, this plan allows for up to 60 authors/publishers to exhibit.
Visitors can stroll along Fifth Avenue South, stopping at the various places of business to meet authors and purchase books. A map and schedule of the book fair will be available at the Information Center at 800 Fifth Ave. S., Suite 103, at participating merchants' stores and restaurants, and elsewhere in town.
The Celebrity Author Luncheon, also scheduled for Saturday, will be held at Vergina on Fifth Avenue South, where the last two such luncheons--featuring Janet Evanovich and Robin Cook--sold out.
This year, the speaker is Karna Small Bodman, who served as the senior director of the National Security Council under President Ronald Reagan for six years and was a television news anchor and reporter for 15 years. She is also the author of three political thrillers, "Checkmate," "Gambit" and "Final Finesse."
Bodman plans to talk about her broadcasting career, her experience working in the West Wing, and her latest challenge as an autho rof novels featuring strong heroines encountering contemporary threats to the U.S.
The festival includes the Naples Writers' Conference, which is two days of workshops led by distinguished writers. Those attending the conference will meet at the Naples Center of Florida Gulf Coast University, 1010 Fifth Ave. S.
Session leaders are Karen Harper, best-selling author of contemporary and historical mysteries and romances; Julie Compton, whose second novel, "Rescuing Olivia," was recently released James Swain, noted for two popular mystery series; Sandy Lender, fantasy novelist and marketing expert; Geoffrey Douglas, author of four well-reviewed nonfiction titles including "The Game of Their Lives"; SciFi/Romance prize-winner Linnea Sinclair detective thriller author Wayne Barcomb Kristy Kiernan, whose "Between Friends" will be published just days before the festival and Forida International University creative writing director Les Standiford, known both for his detective series featuring John Deal and his recent nonfiction excursions into cultural history.
The festival, sponsored in part by WGCU, Comcast and Naples Daily News, will include several free presentations.
