A mountain slowly washes into the sea and a kayaker off the coast of Maine has a surprising encounter with a right whale in Eric Pinder's new essay "Back to the Sea." The essay appears in the latest issue of Ocean Magazine.
"Back to the Sea" represents a change of locale for nature writer Eric Pinder, whose work usually focuses on forests and mountains. Eric is the author of North to Katahdin, which follows in Thoreau's footsteps to the terminus of the Appalachian Trail, and his newest book Among the Clouds, which features jokes and humor about weather from the top of windswept Mount Washington. A recent trip to the cold New England beaches, watching the seals swim just offshore, helped reawaken his interest in the ocean.
