[USPRwire, Sun Sep 13 2009] Tonya Blount, performing artist, author, former talk show host, and current editor-in-chief of Having Church for Women, will receive her doctorate in Humanities Friday, November 6, 2009. The event will take place at the Astoria World Manor in Astoria, New York. Cocktails begin at 7:00 pm and will be followed by dinner at 8:00 pm.
"Not long ago, I was homeless with my five children after escaping an abusive marriage. To be recognized for this honor simply because I have reached back to help other victims of domestic violence is a tremendous blessing," stated Blount, who is also an ordained minister and domestic violence advocate. "I am humbled and overwhelmed to receive an honorary doctorate in Humanities from ABG Theological and Seminary."
Dr. Alfred Phillips, founder and president of ABG Seminary will present Tonya Blount with her honorary doctorate degree. World renowned, singer/performing artist, Melba Moore will also receive her honorary doctorate at the ceremony titled, "A Night to Remember With Tonya Blount." Proceeds will benefit Leave the Wilderness, Inc. an organization dedicated to assisting battered women and their children.
Both women maintain active leadership roles and have made remarkable achievements as both performing artists and community advocates. They have represented and served a wide range of organizations for more than two decades making them exemplary choices for the degrees of honor.
