Don’t Shoot! I’m Just the Avon Lady!
Avon Memoir Delivers the Makeup |
What’s it really like being an Avon Lady… in the 21st century? Author and single mom Birdie Jaworski hikes the beaches, canyons and palm-lined avenues of Southern California with her Avon brochures and two young sons, ages 8 and 10 in this heart-warming – and hilarious -memoir.
Birdie does Avon the old-fashioned way – door to door, and meets a naked Hungarian gardener, a pet monkey in need of wrinkle cream, and mullet-headed headbangers. It’s not all lipstick and cellulite cream, however. Birdie also gets a call from Catholic Charities and discovers the baby she gave up for adoption two decades ago wants to meet her birth mother.
Birdie Jaworski’s blog about her adventures as an Avon Lady, Beauty Dish, first climbed the charts at Salon.com, where she was listed as one of the top twenty blogs of all time. Beauty Dish and Jaworski’s literary flair were covered in the Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, Positive Thinking Magazine, and the NYT.
Jaworski now lives in Las Vegas, New Mexico where she writes for a local newspaper.
