Excerpt from my interview:
If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Steven Spielberg. Hands down. Recently, I had the pleasure of working on a pilot (in the simplistic capacity of a background performer—nothing fancy) of his TV show called Extant featuring stunningly beautiful Halle Berry. When the assistant director told me the premise of the show, my jaws fell agape; lips dragging on the tile, eyes raccoon wide. It was right in alignment with my second novel Sk8board Xombies, and the set was amazing. I totally feel like my second novel will be one of the most imaginative stories written since perhaps Willie Wonka, and seriously, I could’ve sworn, part of the setting was stripped from my mind like a Mr. Spock mind-meld! Anyway, I would absolutely love to sit with the master film maker, and speak to him about his process, his childhood, his dreams and his stories. God, imagine that. He’s a freaking genius. Are you kidding me?
Many of my stories lovingly cradle tropes and motifs of Steven Spielberg. He’s been said to be overly sentimental and perhaps too moralistic, but in my book, he’s exactly the fantastical story teller, besides Alfred Hitchcock and Rod Serling that resonates with me, (by far!) the most. I love the way that he always captures the magic of childhood in all of us, and how children are found many times to be a powerful source of his storytelling. It is said that there are only two brands: Disney and Spielberg. I agree, except, I’d add Marvel, if they weren’t now owned by Disney. Spider-Man rocks forever!
