Guest Contributor at Carmen Ruggero's The Yarn Spinner:::::::::::::::::::::
READ ON ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
My good friend, talented and prolific poet Carmen Ruggero, did me the honor of inviting me to be
Guest Contributor at her author’s site, The Yarn Spinner.
I said “Naaaaaa.” (continued below) |
You know better! I am thrilled! Despite having worked two l2-hour days in a row, Carmen Ruggero took the trouble to post a comment about my poetry at Poetry Life & Times. Then she trumped herself by offering me a spot as Guest Contributor on her site. In less time that it takes to look up onomatopoeia (hope I spelled it right), three poems – and a photo, yet – were making themselves at home at TYS. “Sidewalks” and “To a Poet’s Poet” are fresh out of the box. The previously published poem, “Rope Burns,” is very close to my heart, as are novelists/poets/editors R.C. ‘Bob’ Rutherford and Sara Claytor of Banner Elk, NC, who wholeheartedly welcomed the autobiographical “Rope Burns” into their fold.. Their electronic magazine, The Moonwort Review is celebrating its fifth year. “Clicks” have grown by leaps and bounds. Most of you are writers. I needn’t tell you what it feels like to send one of your babies into the world. Fortunately, there are dedicated literary “foster parents” who treat adoptees and their “real” parents with loving care.. In my experience, most editors are passionate about writing and writers.. Bob and Sara and countless other editors – if only I could name them all – beat back daunting odds to help make a tough and sometimes unforgiving profession seem like a cakewalk. Okay, not.. What we all do for love, isn’t it. If it sounds as if I mean editors who happen to like my work, ‘t’ain’ so. . No one loves acceptance more than a writer, but I can honestly say that among those who ha ve yet to accept a single piece from me whom I hold in the highest esteem. When someone who is swamped with manuscripts and administrative folderol, working under deadline and battling to keep a publication above water financially drops everything to give a struggling writer a needed pat or helpful suggestion, it tells us that ours is an honorable profession. A lot of my writing has been bad. I should probably beg for forgiveness. But you know what? Every good editor, like every good writer, know that a mistake not only teaches, it often leads to a brand new path. If we writers are lucky, great editors stand at the gates, holding tickets for those who pay dues.. If we are very, v e r y lucky, fellow and sister writers take pleasure in our every success and do everything they can to see that we achieve more. . . .Carmen Ruggero, for instance. Keep Daring to Dream. ‘Pea’<3
