I just received word that four haiku that I recently wrote have been accepted for the December, 2008 issue of Taj Mahal Review. I have not written many haiku. I have not had the confidence, frankly. If there is a poetic equivalent of scaling Everest, to create a perfect haiku is surely it. There are many definitions of poetry, but it is generally agreed that it comes as close to expressing the inexpressible as is possible, and that images are its "paint." Economy is another vital element. To say it 'all' without wasting a word. I don't kid myself. It will always be beyond me to write anything perfect, let alone a haiku. But oh, how great it is to be on the mountain. Even way down here!
