Richmond, VA Captivating your mind from the first word, keeping your eyes mesmerized, and finally setting your soul free, M. Abla seduces your senses in her page-turning debut book entitled Liberated. The book of poems unleashes the author’s innermost thoughts and experiences leaving her heart, as she describes in her title poem of the book, “on the table for everyone to dissect.”

Liberated is uniquely separated into phases instead of chapters. “I strongly believe that everyone must go through different phases in life to grow and learn,” M. Abla explains. Each phase describes a different part of M. Abla’s life, emitting both a personal and universal vibe. The experiences highlighted throughout the book are those that M. Abla has endured or witnessed; however, the concepts of love, insecurities, and hope are relatable and tangible (to everyone). Originating from hip-hop culture, the poems throughout Liberated are written in spoken word style and when performed, provide additional enjoyment.

M. Abla will be hosting a book release celebration in Richmond showcasing her book on Saturday, August 16 at 3:00p.m. at The Berkeley Hotel in The Jamestown Room (1200 E Cary Street). There will be poetry readings with live performances and music. M. Abla’s book will be available for purchase at the event and can also be ordered online (www.amazon.com or www.barnesandnoble.com).  Come out and experience an unforgettable show that appetizes your emotions and leaves you wanting more. Liberation awaits you!

M. Abla, a native of Hampton, Virginia, has always been intrigued by the power of words.  Growing up in middle class America did not always make it easy, especially coming from two Ghanaian parents.  However, she was able to overcome the struggles of being a minority and the common hardships of inadequacy and insecurity most young adolescents go through and she is ready to share her experiences with the world.  M. Abla graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor's Degree in English and went on to receive her Master of Arts in Media Management from Norfolk State University.  M. Abla currently resides in Richmond, Virginia working as a Marketing Specialist.
