Maria Lupinacci wins runner-up with her 10 poem manuscript "Premonitions and Potions"

The winners of The Annual Bodighera Poetry Prize 2005, sponsored by the Sonia Raiziss-Giop Foundation have been officially announced!

The 2005 winner is Grace Cavalieri of Maryland for her manuscript, Water on the Sun2005 judge, Daniela Gioseffi, has also announced eight honorable mention winners who were finalists and runners-up to Ms. Cavalieri. In alphabetical order the runners up were:

  • Anna Ammatuzio of New York
  • Sharon La Montanna Charde of Connecticut
  • Vinni Marie D'Ambrosio of New York
  • Gil Fagiani of Long Island City
  • Carmela Delia Lanza of Albuquerqui
  • Maria Lupinacci of Trenton
  • Susan Scutti of New York
  • Tony Trigilio of Chicago

"The prize, consisting of book publication in bilingual edition, is dedicated to finding the best manuscripts of poetry in English by an American poet of Italian descent and surname (or middle/ maiden surname.) The emphasis is on quality poetry, not Italian-American themes.

The winning manuscript is put into quality translations of modern Italian by a native Italian each year commissioned by the press. For the benefit of American poets of identifiable Italian ancestry, the prize fosters the preservation of the Italian language among Italian American writers and the public at large.

Each winning manuscript is awarded a cash prize of $1,000 to the winning poet and $1,000 for a commissioned translator. The poet's bilingual book is published by Bordighera Press in the following year, and celebrated with a bilingual reading and reception at Poets House in New York City."
