Are e-cards replacing traditional paper greeting cards?
Wednesday, December 17, 2008  7:05:00 AM

by Karen Justice

Mainstream
How many greeting cards are sent in the United States each year? Approximately 190 million greeting cards were sent for Valentine's Day; approximately 1.9 billion were sent for Christmas and other holidays at the end of the year; there were approximately 14 million e-cards purchased and sent last year.

From these numbers, we can forecast that e-cards will not replace traditional paper greeting cards, even though they are often free of charge as well as one of the most convenient ways to show someone you care.  Many people view e-cards as supplementary giving.

However, the largest threat to specialty greeting card companies is discount retailers and dollar stores.  Specialty retailers and wholesalers like the Wild Jungle Chick greeting card line has revised their marketing strategy and taken a very concentrated approach by adding free e-cards to their website.  Other ways Wild Jungle Chick has innovated the line is by adding a jungle series of greeting cards that feature beautiful animals such as elephants, giraffes, lepards, lions, tigers, and zebras. The line was created for anyone for any occassion. They could be used for friendship, get better soon, love you, hello, just wanted to say hello, greetings, you're special, and to help with depression, anxiety, humor, sickness, and/or getting over a loved one.  And the Wild Jungle Chick blog provides gift ideas and tips on how to reduce stress.

While holiday shopping, take time to laugh and enjoy the scenery of the holidays. Stop by the Wild Jungle Chick store at 2300 Gulf Blvd in Indian Rocks Beach, visit the retail website www.wildjunglechick.com, or visit the kiosk in the Tyron Square mall in St. Petersburg.  Karen Justice created a greeting card line, magnets, t-shirts, coasters, and mouse pads.  Her designs are created in tropical like settings often featuring two or three animals talking with one another.  The backdrops are vibrant and often display multi-shades of blue, yellow, and red.  The feel good and uplifting designs provide an instant vacation to everyone who sees them.  Karen’ s mission is to help people relax and see the humor in life’s comedy.  She wants people to enjoy life.
