| Good news. Also, ideas if you're in a group, and call for submissions coming. |
Hello Folks, on Saturday, Feb., 5, our slate passed, so I am now president of Poetry West, the largest, most thriving poetry organization in this city. I am very honored to be trusted with this position, and am honored to work with the remaining board members as well as new ones. One of my new ideas for our organization (we have about 35 members) is to find a "sister" poetry group" -- like cities have sister cities. I wrote to 7 State Federations of Poetry Societies. I received one response, referring me to a another link. I had trouble finding poetry groups themselves. Please, if you are in a group roughly the size of ours, and feel that we can exchange ideas, learn from one another, and also share poetry, let me know. We could feature some of your work during some of our events during National Poetry Month, and maybe vice-versa. Perhaps one day one of your poets will be in our vicinity and we can talk him/her into a workshop if that is a forte (we do pay a stipend). We are also reviving our LITERARY MAGAZINE this year, and will be putting in a call for submissions -- www.poetrywest.org is our website, in process of being updated. That should be done within the week. So please let me know if you'd like to be a sister (or brother!) - it would be interesting, I think, since nature figures in highly in a lot of poetry - to find a group in a different geographical terrain (mine is mountainous, semi-arid). But not necessary. Thank you - and wish me luck! I may not need luck. The board is awesome.
