My Novel - No Irish Need Apply - has been selected as The Book of the Month for June 2009 for the Diversity Reading Group at Booz Allen Hamilton, McClean, Va. There will be over 100 attendees. I will be speaking, reading and signing books. The novel stands-up with an illustrious group of other monthly book and speaker selections for 2009:
John Matteson (Jan) - Eden's Outcast
Edward P. Jones (Pulitzer Prize winner) - All Aunt Hagar's Children (Feb)
Kate Jacobs - The Friday Night Knitting Club (March)
Greg MacGuire (of Wicked) - A Lion Among Men (April)
Greg Mortensen - Thee Cups of Tea (May)
Edward C. Patterson - No Irish Need Apply (June)
Padma Viswanathan - The Toss of a Lemon (July)
Jodi Picault - Nineteen Minutes (August)
Junot Diaz - The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (September)
Kim Edwards - The Memory Keepers Daughter (October)
Aaron Cohen - Brotherhood of Warriors (November)
Leslie Silko - Ceremony (December)
I am quite excited and honored by this selection. It dovetails nicely into my former role at Dun & Bradstreet where I was the President of GLISN (The Gay & lesbian Information Support Network) and toured the country speaking about GLBT issues in the workplace. I won the 2000 New Jersey Minority Achievement Award for my work in Corporate Diversity. Anyway, I am thrilled that their organization has selected No Irish Need Apply for such an honor. I feel like a parent about to watch his child graduate. The novel is dedicated to PFLAG, the national organization for the Parents, Families and Friends of Gays and Lesbians.
