Looking for some great new fantasy books to read, but don’t want to break your budget? Here are a few books that won’t force you to break open the piggy bank.
The Legend of Witch Bane (Kindle $0.99, Paperback $13.45), by Kevis Hendrickson is a bargain Young Adult book and is currently priced under a dollar for a limited-time: High Queen Rhiannon Eldess has placed the kingdom of Kaldan under a terrible curse. Only Kòdobos, Anyr, and Laris can save their people from a dark fate. Danger awaits the children as they face the queen's evil minions in their desperate quest to save their kingdom. To gain final victory the children must find Witch Bane, the magic sword which will give them the power to defeat Rhiannon once and for all! But a prophecy foretelling of the return of an ancient evil threatens to doom them all. It will take all their courage to survive the malevolent forces of evil gathered against them. Will they fail or will they succeed? Prepare for the adventure of a lifetime!

For some truly great epic fantasy, you should check out Mighty Hammer Down (Kindle $0.99, Paperback $10.99), by David J. Guyton, also priced under a dollar for a limited-time: A longstanding peace is about to be shattered by villains in the shadows of Medora. They conspire with distant nations to cripple the western Empire and spread their venom eastward. In their secretive attempt, they stumble across the power to slay Arius, the god of war, and replace him with a human puppet. That mission fails however, and they not only pave the path for the seven gods to walk the earth, but create a god of war who is bent on their destruction. He clumsily learns to use his powers and hones them into a powerful weapon to wield against the Mages and their twisted vision of society. In the chaos, a great war ignites and threatens all nations and cultures.

Shadow of the Ghost: Book 1: Lord of Chaos Trilogy (Kindle $0.99, Paperback $21.00), by Tanner Artesz is yet another bargain book which is currently priced under a dollar for a limited-time: Chaos reigns as warring gods engulf an entire planet in their conflict in Shadow of the Ghost, an epic fantasy that places the fate of creation in the precarious hands of Ky, an unpredictable elven child. Their planet is a place where the inhabitants are suffocated by unbridled power that must be checked. Rachk'sha believes that all creation is his to manipulate as he wishes. With no remorse, he imprisons his brother, an old man, and begins to replace the gods, The Nine and the Council of Darkness, as if it were a game. The planet on the verge of war, Maker decides to send Ky, a "Seed," to set things right. Ky has his work cut out for him. Denied his coming of age and exiled in a cruel world, Ky must first deal with haunting memories and an insatiable need for revenge before he can seek meaningful justice.
Another great bargain this month is Empress ($1.00) by Karen Miller. This is the first installment of the GodSpeaker trilogy (The Riven Kingdom ($6.39), Hammer of God ($6.39):
In a family torn apart by poverty and violence, Hekat is no more than an unwanted mouth to feed, worth only a few coins from a passing slave trader. But Hekat was not born to be a slave. For her, a different path has been chosen. It is a path that will take her from stinking back alleys to the house of her God, from blood-drenched battlefields to the glittering palaces of Mijak. This is the story of Hekat, precious and beautiful.
Those who have been dying to read a Tolkien-styled fantasy adventure book should not hesitate to pick themselves up a copy of Elfhunter: A Tale of Alterra, The World That Is (Kindle $2.87, Paperback $18.45), by C.S. Marks: Elfhunter is the first of the tales of Alterra, The World That Is. It concerns the quest of an unlikely pair of heroines, Gaelen and Nelwyn, who are Wood-elves of the Greatwood Forest. They are hunter- scouts in the realm of King Ri-Aruin, and they have sworn to protect their woodland home, but they are drawn into a quest to defend all the Elves of Alterra as they seek to destroy the 'Elfhunter', a monstrous entity intent on exterminating the Elves until none remain. Along the way, Gaelen and Nelwyn are joined by other interesting characters as they make their way through the realms of Alterra in pursuit of the Elfhunter, whose true name is 'Gorgon'. What headstrong Gaelen and her gentle cousin do not know is that Gorgon is in league with the Dark Power, and that the forces of Evil have forged an entanglement between Gorgon and Gaelen herself. Now she and all she loves are in jeopardy, and only an inspired plan put forth by Orogond, a mortal man, can save her.

Winner of 2008 Reviewer's Choice Award: 'Best Fantasy.'
Last, but not least, all Twilight fans and readers of dark fantasy fiction should leap at the opportunity to pick up Almost Human-paranormal vampire series-volumes 1, 2 & 3($9.99) by Melanie Nowak. This is the specially priced complete trilogy: In this witty paranormal adventure/romance, each chapter alternates perspective between an elder vampire and a young human girl as they navigate the difficulties of addiction and desire; the perils of zombies and vampires; and struggles with abuse, morality and college.
