Growing Green Minds with the release of Children’s Book
Sunday, December 28, 2008  2:14:00 PM

by Timothy J Magner

At a time when fewer and fewer children experience nature directly, environmental entrepreneur and educator Tim Magner invites young explorers to discover the outdoors and see how the world works from A to Z.

An Environmental Guide from A to Z uses people, places and concepts to show how the countless pieces and parts of nature weave, connect and link everything together. This 48-page book scans the globe—from the amazing Amazon rainforest to the peak of Kilimanjaro to the depths of the ocean with Jacque Cousteau— while pulling us into nature nearby by asking questions to link to our surroundings, e.g. Have you made a map of your local natural community? A leaf scrapbook? Kept a nature journal? How many types of insects live in your backyard? Ever grown a tree or visited a farmer’s market? Followed animal tracks, grown a tree or caught a fish?

To top it off, each letter contains a Did You Know? section explaining things like composting and the Law of Natural Selection or fascinating facts like Queen Cleopatra declared worms to be sacred animals and thirsty camels can drink a bathtub of water in ten minutes!

Never before has one book done so much. Basic enough for an eight-year-old and challenging enough for a twelve-year-old, An Environmental Guide explodes with ideas surrounded by stunning illustrations.

“Our objective was to create a reading experience to get these young explorers  to open their minds to the wonders of the world—and to the amazing nature right out their back door,” says author, and former champion-frog-catcher, Tim Magner. “If we can only get kids to unplug from their electronics long enough to give nature a chance. Nature provides all the answers we’ll ever need.”

Author Tim Magner is also author of Earl the Earthworm Digs for His Life and N is for Nature: An Environmental Alphabet Book.
