Nine financially-related telltale signs of infidelity from infidelity expert Ruth Houston were recently featured as a recommended resource on bankrate.com.  The warning signs accompanied an article on financial infidelity written by Jay McDonald.    

The segment, 9 Financial Signs of Marital Infidelity featured nine signs of financial deception taken from infidelity expert Ruth Houston’s book, Is He Cheating on You? – 829 Telltale Signs (Lifestyle Publications, $29.95) which documents practically every known sign of infidelity, including the subtle signs people usually overlook. The chapter on Financial Affairs lists 52 financially-related signs of infidelity.

Financial Infidelity Linked to Sexual Infidelity

According to a survey commissioned by Redbook magazine and lawyers.com, financial infidelity (dishonesty about spending habits or other financial matters) is a problem in almost 1/3 of all marriages and committed relationships. The 2005 Women & Investing Survey from Oppenheimer Funds found similar results. 

But Ruth Houston, a nationally-recognized infidelity expert frequently called on by the media to comment on infidelity issues in the news, pointed out that both studies failed to mention the connection between financial infidelity and sexual infidelity.  According to Houston, financial infidelity can sometimes be an indication of sexual infidelity.  An article on Houston’s website www.InfidelityAdvice.com , entitled  Financial Infidelity Often Accompanies Sexual Infidelity explains the link between the two.

Financial Deception is the Tip of the Iceberg

“Not all financial infidelity is linked to sexual infidelity, but a great deal of it is,” says Houston.  “Financial deception can also be an indication of other types of deception. Someone who is dishonest with his or her marriage mate about financial affairs, may be just as dishonest about other important areas as well.  If there are signs of financial infidelity, a person would be well advised to check it out. In almost every case, the situation warrants closer investigation.”
