When fall rolls around, people, just like squirrels, go nuts for nuts, especially so in Camden in Preble County where the Black Walnut Festival is held the third weekend in October. Booths are filled with skilled artisans who've used their hands to make unusual woodcrafts, some from the wood of the walnut tree. Other booths hold homemade baked goods. Between 700 and 900 pounds of the nuts are sold during the popular festival that celebrates the harvest of the American Juglansnigra otherwise known as the Black Walnut.
Why all the hoopla over a nut?...
