My husband is a Marine, who did 2 tours in Vietnam from 1965/66, 67/68 he was in Danang with HMM-261 and a door gunner on a UH-34D when he read this book, he could not stop till he was done with it, and he is NOT a reader, not even directions!! He then started talking to me about places where Murphy was like the Rock Pile, Camp Carroll, and seeing VC's being thrown out of his plane at 4,000 feet, he told me some things about Ashaw Valley, when his plane got the windshield shot out and THEN he was allowed to load his M-60 machine gun!!! He told me he had been on R&R in Manila also and really was yanked back by what was written from Murphy.
My husband has quite a few books, from someone named Sturkey and a lot of othere, movies, DVD's but this book called 395 and a Wake-up is sitting on our mantle, on disply for all of his friends to see, which they have and I hear him tell them that this is the best book he has ever read, really factual and he say's he will not loan it out!! His friends have to buy one!! SO I would say it is much treasured.
