Award-Winning Tibet Adventure Book Debuts New Second Edition

Action/Thriller
Pilgrim’s Tales publishing introduces its new second edition of Yak Butter Blues: A Tibetan Trek of Faith by Brandon Wilson. This Independent Publisher (IPPY) award-winner is the inspiring story of one couple’s defiant struggle to accomplish what others called "impossible." Along with Sadhu, their Tibetan horse, they set off to become the first Western couple to trek 1,000-kilometers (650-miles) along a traditional pilgrim’s trail across Tibet’s unforgiving Himalayan plains. Little could prepare them for what would be this ultimate test of their resolve, faith, love…and very survival.

Pilgrim’s Tales publishing introduces its new second edition of "Yak Butter Blues: A Tibetan Trek of Faith" by Brandon Wilson.

What begins as an adventure, quickly turns into so much more. Since Tibetans cannot trek this same path of faith from Lhasa, Tibet to Kathmandu, Nepal, they vow to walk it in their place – and prove to the Communist authorities that it can be done without global repercussions.

Their true story is a riveting tale of human endurance. The couple face Tibet’s ruthless environment head-on: the blistering winds, extreme temperatures, sandstorms, raging blizzards, and thinnest of air…compounded by exhaustion, hunger, illness, inflexible bureaucrats and trigger-happy Chinese soldiers.

Although the land and climate leave their imprints daily, an even more lasting impression on these adventurers is created by Tibetan villagers eager to share what little they possess: yak butter tea, the warmth of their fire, camaraderie and steadfast trust in the Dalai Lama’s return.

Still, little could prepare them for what would be this ultimate test of their resolve, faith, love…and very survival.

"Yak Butter Blues" provides a candid first-hand look at the lives of the Tibetan families who secret them into their homes – and at a culture teetering on the edge of extinction because of brutal occupation.

The book has received glowing reviews. The prestigious Library Journal said, "Wilson observes the impact of the Chinese occupation on the daily lives of Tibetans, which distinguishes his book from Heinrich Harrer's classic "Seven Years in Tibet," which took place before the invasion of China and the fleeing of the Dalai Lama. Recommended for adventure travel and Tibet culture collections."

Midwest Book Review said it is "A moving and emotional testimony, and a travelogue that is the next most vivid experience to hiking the trail itself."

Maui Weekly called it "A soaring travel diary. It places the reader in the thick of the action every bit as well as Marco Polo transported Italians to China."

The adventure/mountaineering community has been equally effusive. Richard Bangs, co-founder of Mountain Travel/Sobek and producer of Richard Bangs Adventures called it "A wild and wonderful ride…"Yak Butter Blues" flickers insistently like a flashbulb afterimage in the mind long after the book is tucked away."

The renowned mountaineer Royal Robbins said, "I came under the spell of Brandon Wilson’s lively and vivid prose. He is a fine writer–perceptive, funny, a great way with words–making the book a whooping good read."

The publishing industry agrees. In 2005, Yak Butter Blues received an Independent Publisher "IPPY" award.

"Yak Butter Blues" was written by adventure writer/photographer Brandon Wilson, whose photos have won awards from National Geographic Traveler and Islands magazines. Wilson is also the author of the new "DeadMen Don't Leave Tips: Adventures X Africa," also from Pilgrim's Tales. He is an expert long-distance trekker, member of the distinguished The Explorers Club and a passionate explorer of over ninety countries.

The new 2nd edition of "Yak Butter Blues" (ISBN # 0977053660, 0977053679), complete with twenty-seven expedition photos and maps, is distributed through Ingram and Baker & Taylor (in the US) and thru Gardners and Bertrams (in the UK).

Readers may purchase the book at their favorite bookstore, online at Amazon or BN.com, or directly thru PilgrimsTales.com.
