| action on the road - the photo is one I took that day, about 20 min''s before the hailstorm on the I-40. You can see the Cross (largest in the NOrthern Hemisphere) and the storm clouds rolling in behind it! Awesome! |
Well, it's been quite a time. Some beautiful sights, but we hit terrible weather outside of the Texas Panhandle and Amarillo. Horrible hailstorm, with sirens blaring that a Tornado was eminent... no place to hide or find refuge.. I-40 was the place where many of us in our cars, SUVS, trucks, and 18wheelers sat while our vehicles rocked and swayed back and forth...often to the point of almost toppling over! Hailstones the size of golfballs and some as large as pro baseballs! It was true , Texas does things BIG... My 16 yr old granddaughter and I held hands and prayed and she was convinced we were going to die on the I-40, as she said, "Grandmother, if I'm going to die, I'm glad it's going to be with you!" Well, guess that was some sort of consolation, but I just held my fear intact as I couldn't frighten her more than she already was..My SUV looks like someone took batting practice ... speed baseball batting practice that is... dents the size of baseballs and golfballs are scattered by the hundreds from one end of my vehicle to the other... At one point we pulled the sunroof open for a second...and knew it was a mistake .... curiosity can kill people, not just the cat! Flash flood warnings had other vehicles stuck in mud alongside the freeway right from where we were parked, except we were on higher ground... The windshield of a car parked behind us was shattered, and I prayed that ours would not fall into the same fate... it didn't, thank goodness. We made it fine...I think.... Have to report it to the insurance company asap, and need to charge the cellphone... We are counting this as a miracle that we were not injured, and that we sustained only the damage to the car that now looks like a strange paint job! Later... law
