I'm starting a revolution. In our efforts (to be celebrated, by the way) in scientifically understanding how children learn to read and how they grow as readers, we have inadvertently widened the gap between those who teach in our schools and the literacy experience at home. In many cases, it has alientated families from participating in their children's literacy instead of working on partnership.
I'm not pointing fingers but I am offering solutions. Visit my blogs to learn more about how we can do more than just push numbers, but grow deep, relationship-building and life/success skills through the powerful worlds of reading and writing.
The Literacy Ambassador has been promoting reading and writing, listening and communicating for over 13 years and she indeed builds bridges between home and school by strengthening the roles of both parents and educators in supporting young and maturing readers.
