The choral music program at the L.P. Vaughn Elementary/Middle School of the Natchitoches Parish School District will be presenting, “North Pole Diaries” a Christmas musical by Sally K. Albrecht, Jay Althouse, Andy Beck, and Brian Fisher on Friday, December 16th at 9:00 A.M. & 2; 00 P.M. (for the student body) and Monday, December 19th at 5:30 P.M. (for parents and the community.) The performance is free.
The musical will be preceded by a performance by the Kindergarten through 3rd grade of Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
"North Pole Diaries" leads the listener to learn what secrets Santa, Mrs. Claus, Dancer, two Elves, Santa's Mechanic, Bob, and the North Pole Chief of Staff have this season! Using drama, lights, singing, choreography, and staging, the musical offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Christmas season for the entire community.
Songs include: North Pole Diaries theme song, a romping rock song; followed by another rock selection, Getting Ready for Christmas; Rock’n roll continues with a hilarious piece entitled, Born to Shop: Santa Wants a brand New Bag follows as a funky rap selection. A touch of calypso adds another funny moment in Santa Needs a Vacation. Hip-Hop Reindeer lends a true rap as four rappers ignite the stage with their jumpin’ and bumpin’. Rock returns with a vengeance in “Away from the Mistletoe”.
The musical is under the direction of Danny R. Von Kanel, choral music teacher at L.P. Vaughn School. Santa and Mrs. Claus are played by students, Brian Morris and Yasmine Bradley. Special choreography for the song, Up, Up, Up in the Sleigh is provided by Mrs. Crystalyn Edwards, 6th – 8th grade teacher at L.P. Vaughn. Elf 1is played by Shamari Benning. North Pole Chief of Staff by Tray Ramian, Dancer (The Reindeer) by Kineaka Solitaire, Elf 2 by Christen DeMary, and Bob the Mechanic by Anna Bergeron.
Soloists include: Kadaija Jackson & Azaria Washington. The four rappers are: Kadaija Jackson, Abrionna Washington, Keaneka Solitaire and Azaria Washington.
The public is cordially invited to this Christmas celebration. The principals of L.P. Vaughn School are: Ms Cynthia Cole (elementary) and Angela Jimenez (middle school). Dr. Derwood Duke is Superintendant of Schools, Natchitoches Parish School district.
