Personal Poetry Notes for National Poetry Month-

April 3 –Attended Moultonborough Library’s Open Mic Night (hosted by Priscilla Burlingham).Eleanor Corliss ,NH nonagenarian poet sold and read her new book of selected poems .A very good crowd of mostly awestruck poets and friends were entertained by her strong  voice, style and talent.

April 4-Attended Portsmouth Poet Laurett’s Reading at Espresso Café. Six of the PPLP’s P.L.s –past & present read from all the Portsmouth PPL’s works. Leslie Kimball hosted and Mike Albert Portsmouth P.L.(2010-2014) sold his new books. As closing reader on the feature segment, Mike read from both his new books…I may be prejudiced…but I was very pleased to be there and leave with his new offerings. Since I’ve missed so much of his Portsmouth PL shows, this was “My highlight” of his tenure .

Both the above shows I accompanied Barb Bald, from Alton- she has a selection of her poems coming out this month-more on that later. Both nights we had a different co-rider that made the trips even more interesting.

April 5- Portable Pantry Writers night in Rochester was the intimate –high-energy evening almost always happening when the features are Teen Writers. Some of these kids’ faces are getting familiar as almost every month they ride into town on the Nute High School’s bus. The stories and poetry are interesting ,but still-evolving maturity makes the event uneven [fast talking, shy ,inappropriate(‘exploratory’) language and topics…Always interesting!... and several great readers at the open mic are exceptional. Next month will feature stories and verse from Bob Gannon – Veteran, poet, storyteller- I suspect there’s more to him that’s on the way to revelation. He is lovable and when he wants, can make my old ribs hurt.

Three nights that have left me inspired but drained…we are so blessed to have access to the talents that are given so freely! …and the month has only begun!
