Annie Daylon's Castles in the Sand won first place in the mainstream genre of Houston Writers Guild's 2012 novel contest and is based on a contest-winning short story of the same name.
Castles in the Sand is a tale of tragedy and hope, set in Vancouver, BC, in 2010. Thirty-eight-year-old Justin Wentworth, a victim of an entitled lifestyle and a collapsing economy, loses everything and winds up living on the street. Attacked and beaten, he accepts assistance from a Good Samaritan. With help, Justin has hope. He struggles to achieve his goal--getting back his wife and little boy.
