Memoir about Embracing Life while Awaiting Death Wins Multiple Awards
Thursday, August 02, 2012  6:20:00 AM

by Linda Campanella

Memoir
Linda Campanella’s poignant new book, When All That''s Left of Me Is Love: A Daughter’s Story of Letting Go, was named a 2012 Nautilus Silver Award winner (grieving/death & dying category). In addition, When All That’s Left of Me Is Love was recently awarded first-place Reader Views 2012 Literary Awards in two categories, including memoir/autobiography/biography, and earned a special award for the Best Memoir or Biography.

Linda Campanella’s poignant new book, When All That's Left of Me Is Love: A Daughter’s Story of Letting Go, was named a 2012 Nautilus Silver Award winner (grieving/death & dying category). The Nautilus Awards recognize books “that promote spiritual growth, conscious living and positive social change,  while at the same time they stimulate the ‘imagination’ and offer the reader ‘new possibilities’ for a better life and a better world.” Previous Nautilus honorees include the Dalai Lama, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, and Mariel Hemingway.

In addition, When All That’s Left of Me Is Love was recently awarded first-place Reader Views 2012 Literary Awards in two categories, including memoir/autobiography/biography, and earned a special award for the Best Memoir or Biography.

The moving story of a daughter’s undying love for her dying mother, Campanella’s memoir recounts her last year with her terminally ill mother and her first few months as a motherless daughter. Through an honest, revealing reliving of events and emotions, readers experience one family’s unwavering determination to live each day fully, even while anticipating death.

When All That’s Left of Me Is Love provides intimate testimony affirming the enormous joy and unexpected gifts one can experience by choosing to embrace life in the face of terminal illness, by looking forward to each day as a beginning rather than dreading it as a step closer to an ending. “My mother’s terminal diagnosis did not carry with it a termination date,” says Campanella, of West Hartford. “‘Terminal’ does not terminate living!”

Her book is a hopeful, helpful story filled with life and valuable lessons for living. Written as a tribute to her mother, Campanella’s story provides life-affirming inspirations that will help anyone jolted into confronting the inevitability and sudden imminence of death, and it offers a comforting balm for the aching hearts of those who are grieving loss. “At the same time it reminds all of us, at any age or stage, to cherish each new day and every close relationship in our lives,” says Campanella.

Described by readers as “unforgettable,” When All That’s Left of Me Is Love also has been lauded by pastors, spiritual counselors, hospice practitioners, palliative care advocates, oncologists, grief counselors, and others involved in or interested in end-of-life care.

“Thanks to our hospice team,” says Campanella, “when we reached the final destination, we all – my mother and those she was leaving behind – experienced peace and gratitude we had not imagined possible at such a sorrowful time in our lives.”

Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, the book is available through bookstores nationwide, by visiting barnesandnoble.com or amazon.com, or from the publisher at www.tatepublishing.com/bookstore.
