Degranon Excerpt at SFFWorld.com. Revised 2004.
Tuesday, September 17, 2002  6:22:00 AM

by Duane Simolke

Science Fiction
Science fiction adventure finding more readers! First Edition chapter at sf/f site.

“With more than 10.000 pages of SF and Fantasy
related content sffworld.com is one of the largest SF and Fantasy literature websites on the Internet today. Enjoy!”

Sffworld.com uses those words to introduce readers to its elaborate, yet easy-to-navigate collection of reviews, excerpts, poems, stories, news, and more! The site is extremely interactive, offering readers the chance to submit material or join in discussions; webmasters can even have links to new material fed directly to their sites!

On September 16, 2002, sffworld.com added an excerpt from the First Edition of my science fiction novel Degranon. Appropriately enough, the excerpt was Chapter 16.

Degranon involves a couple and their twin sons, caught in a battle between two oppressive worlds. At this point, one of the twins has been sent back in time, while the other has become involved in the cult of Degranon. Even with all that’s gone wrong already, no one expected what happens in this chapter! And the adventure is just beginning!

SciFan.com has also added information about Degranon. And author Ronald L. Donaghe wrote the following review for the book’s back cover.

“Duane Simolke's latest offering is a fascinating sci-fi excursion into a world as unique as his singular vision. Yet parts of that world can be an allegory of our own world, from the undermall, where the ‘lost’ citizens live away from the Maintainers and run a black market, to the politics of an entire planet. One encounters the sinister cult of Degranon, where young people chant mantras about freedom and truth, which are really designed to shut their minds down and make them pliable. Here, too, in this world, the youth rebel as they do on our own home planet. And most chilling, all citizens have been saved by a miracle drug that has eradicated all disease, which is really a deadly virus that also eats away at everything healthy in the body. Simolke has created a drug with such sinister side effects; the citizens lose many abilities that have wide-ranging impacts on the very culture of the home planet itself. One can only hope that this is only the first in a series of scifi offerings by a very clever writer.”

***

Degranon will be out in a Revised, Second Edition (paperback and hardcover) in the summer of 2004, with more gay characters and a sharper focus on gay issues.
