Who wants to be a queen? What does it mean? Kathleen Gage says,
"Being a Queen means living by the values and dreams that are
important to me. It means having the willingness to take risks
and live life with passion. It is knowing that not everyone will
believe in what I am doing and that is okay." Kathleen is one of
many who have followed Allyn Evans' advice in her book, Grab the
Queen Power: Start Living Your Best Life Now! Allyn's message is

Allyn says: We are so excited to have Jo Condrill joining us for
an evening class on October 20th!
I met Jo about five years ago. She was doing what I wanted to be
doing! She was on a book tour and just happened to be visiting
my local bookstore. Guess what? I made a note of her appearance
and showed up. After a brief talk, she hung around to sign books
and chat. I then shared my dream with her. Eager to offer help,
she did just that. From the very beginning, Jo has mentored me
without asking anything in return. Thank you, Jo! BTW, Jo's
teleseminar based on her book Take Charge of Your Life is all
about moving forward in your life and creating what you desire.
If you are interested in transformation, then don't miss it.
Do remember you only need a telephone. And you will be charged
for a long distance phone call. The good news is, though, that
if you have one of the cheaper plans (and many do), it will cost
no more than $5 for the call and probably will range between
$1.80 to $3.60. To register, go to http://www.queenpower.com/

2. What Are You Saying?
While I was volunteering in one of the Disaster Relief Centers
following Hurricane Katrina, a young woman approached me in the
hallway. She faced me squarely and asked me a question. I know
she asked me a question because she said something, paused and
looked at me expectantly. I had no idea what she said so I
smiled and asked her to repeat it. She did and I tried really
hard to listen and read her lips. Her lips barely moved; her
voice was a low monotone; but her eye contact was great! She
expected an answer. That was clear. I had no clue what the
young woman wanted. I was desperate. My eyes searched for help.
She was getting impatient with me and shortened her message. She
caught a clump of hair in her hands as she continued to listen
for me to respond. Body language! Finally, I had a clue. I
sent her to the room where personal care products were available.
She seemed satisfied.
There could be many different reasons the woman did not speak
more distinctly. She had apparently been through a lot to be
here in a strange city with thousands of other people in a huge
building. Under ordinary circumstances, if I were coaching her,
I would begin by recommending
1. Some exercises to improve her articulation-exercises that
would have her opening her mouth wider, exaggerating her lip,
tongue, and jaw movements while she practiced in private.
2. I would ask her to speak louder and enunciate her words more
3. I would also give her positive feedback on her use of

again after you fall."
3. Future Oriented Self Leadership
Academia, businesses, and government are focusing on leadership
issues. When there is a glaring vacuum, we rush to fix it.
Leadership development is just that: a developmental process.
And most politicians were not born with leadership abilities.
How is it in your business? Who are the leaders in your
industry? In your organization or business?
Are you closing the last sale, focused on your most recent
performance, or preparing for the next? Are you looking back and
saying with regret, 'If only....' Instead of gathering
information about the next client, the next audience, or the next
In some instances, its a good idea to prepare "Lessons Learned"
to benefit most by the past experience.
What did we do?
What went right?
What could have been done better? How?
The next time, I will....
And then move on--focus on the future--the next time and in the
years to come. How is your industry changing? How will you and
your business change? Do you have a strategic plan? Take time
to think--it could be the difference between success and failure.

-----------------------------------------------------Following are my thoughts on using active duty military personnel
in domestic disasters. If you want to 'talk back' go to my
blog, http://www.goalminds.com/weblog and post a comment. The
latest initiative concerning natural disasters in the US is to
change laws and policies concerning the use of active duty
military forces. One idea being broadcast now is to devote
certain active duty troops to US only support and even to place
them under the command of National Guard Commanders. In my view,
placing Federal active duty troops under the command of a state
Governor would be a drastic mistake.
How often do we have a natural disaster like Katrina? Okay, Rita
followed close on it's heals, but how often does that happen?
What will these domestic disaster troops be doing between
disasters? Waiting for the next disaster? When I was in the War
College, it was said that our inclination is to fight the last
war. The focus is on what happened in the past rather than being
forward thinking and developing scenarios of the next challenge.
Yes, we need to definitely learn from the past. But aren't we
learning in Iraq that the previous battlefield exercises did not
match the urban warfare we encountered? Yes, special units were
prepared. And many had to be retrained quickly. What will the
next conflict look like? How many mountain climbers are we
training? How many spelunkers wear a uniform? 'What can we
learn from Star Wars.' We have been preparing for
chemical/biological and even nuclear warfare for years. What
does cyber warfare look like?
Isn't it time that the citizens of this country become more
self-sufficient? Let our corporations take up the burden of
training their personnel how to handle emergency situations in
their areas. Let them make a commitment to the common good.
They have shown that spirit in providing supplies and money in
these disasters. What if they had a plan in place to provide
some brainpower and personnel, as well, and train them in
advance. They could step in beside FEMA, the Federal Emergency
Management Agency, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and others
in an organized way. The National Guard has a mission. Let
civilians be their back-up. Let the active duty military
continue to focus on the defense of all of us against foreign
