Come on in and put your feet up. I'll throw another log on the fire and we can discuss what's important. Things like fishing, duck hunting, making maple syrup and family will be gone over.

Stop in once in a while and I'll give you something fresh and new to make your day a bit brighter.

Subject: FFfff fishing?

Opening day of the 2004 fishing season is almost here. All across the state of Minnesota, people are going through their tackle boxes, making sure that they have the newest lures and gizmos to help them catch the elusive walleyes.
The weather report is for cold, rain and wind, normal for this part of the world. From my many years of experience fishing, ya just can't have fun unless you're absolutely frozen to death on the lakes.
Some have been spending their evening hours crawling around on the dark wet ground, flashlight in hand, searching for nightcrawlers, a favorite bait for walleyes. Then after a successful evening gathering the slippery critters, they tempt fate by trying to store them in the family refrigerator. Several good men have been sent to meet their maker for such bad decisions. Wives tend to have little tolerance for such things.
If you have an extra fish or two some day, go knock on the door of that nice couple a few doors down and ask if they'd like some fresh fish. I guarantee that in a couple weeks you'll have the favor returned in the form of a dozen 'right out of the oven' cookies or maybe even a loaf of fresh baked bread. Lots of folks just can't get out to fish for themselves any more.
The garden is tilled and ready to accept the new tomato plants. I never much cared for fresh tomatoes, but I sure like to grow them.
Writing has slowed some with all of the new spring outdoor stuff to keep me busy. My first mistake of the year was to try mowing down some thistles. I fired up the big garden tractor and took after them with renewed vigor. It took only a short time to realize that I might just have made my first mistake of the mowing season. The mower gave out a squeal that nearly ruined my whole day. Then the motor quit and I was left sitting there in the stillness wondering what I'd done wrong now. It only took about 3 to 4 hours to realize that I'd found a nice long piece of barbed wire, that was left behind many years ago. It had wrapped around the blade and nearly destroyed the whole thing. It took about two days to get the parts order together and another two to explain to my bride what I spent all the money on. Yesterday I got it all put back together and believe it or not, the whole thing is as good as new. My wallet however is significantly lighter.
Well, time to make another pot of coffee. Good luck fishing. So from the land of tall pines and tall tales, I wish you well.
