I am elated with the news I have for you.
I recently published my first book, Arrested Potential, in July and it was indeed a dream deferred. I told my childhood friends that one day I would write a book, but they just laughed at me. Amazingly, I found the determination to pursue my dream and after 40 years,it was realized. Certainly, I must admit that my retirement and lots of spare time may have been major factors in my deciding now was as good a time as any for me to get busy writing my life story. No doubt, I am glad that it took me so long to begin writing, because suddenly I realized I had a wealth of knowledge to share with my reading audience. My journey, through life has taken me half way around the world and back , and it is through the travails and triumphs of this journey that I learned a valuable life lesson: I and I only control my fate and my destiny. Moreover, I learned that success is never guaranteed; however, playing by the rules and working hard increases the probability that one can succeed. As a black man, I had to realize I had the potential to succeed and I needed the constant reinforcement of those in authority, who did not mind "calling me out" when the transparency of my "slacking off" became apparent. No life lesson is more important than knowing that you must surround yourself with positive people who exert positive energy, who don't mind giving constructive criticism, and who demonstrate a "can do" attitude on a continuous basis.
Please forward it to your friends if you feel they would be interested.
