Dear Subscribers:

You may already have read about the combination cruise and writers’ I’m doing. I’ll be presenting, critiqueing, offering special services. It’s worth repeating because I think many writers don’t get out enough.

I remember when I was starting out in journalism, my editor required me to go out with the photographers who photographed my stories. Once, when I’d been writing features and wedding stories (and an occasional obituary!) for about six months, I said I’d rather stay in and catch up with my assignments. She was appalled. Now this was a long, long time ago, but she bestowed a near - rant on me that went something like this.

“What? WHAT?? Writers need to get from behind their desks. Get out in the world. Get ideas. Get inspiration. Make contacts! Network! Stay in? Not a chance. Get your little journalist booties on and move!”

Subtle wasn’t she.

Her advice became a permanent part of the advice I give authors. And that’s why I think reminding you for this cruise is a good thing, too. You only have until October 28th to reserve and, yes, you need the inspiration. And it’s nice to get inspiration that can—at least in part—become a tax deduction because it contributes to your career.
