Subject: Where did Rita Hestand Go?
Okay, hold on to your hats, I haven't lost my mind, or left the country. I have however changed many things as my site will reflect it.
All my contemporary novels including my western series, the Travers Brothers have moved to Smashwords.com and Amazon.com. You can buy them there.
I know...right about now you are asking yourself, what happened, she was resold with new publishers and now she's self published. It is true. But I will share with you why I have done this right now.
I have been e - published for ten years and it got me very little in the end financially. Many bad contracts and little money later, I wised up and decided that since the books were edited, many times by different publishers, they were relatively clean. So I decided to try self publishing as this was costing me nothing, and the rewards were much greater than any e - publisher offered.
It was hard to learn the formatting but there was a style guide I went by and got my work on line with Smashwords. Smashwords pays twice what an e - publisher pays for each book. There was no cost to doing this, just work. So I did it. And now I am so happy to be there. Now I get more of the money for writing the book than ever. Any time you want to check out my contemporaries go to Smashwords.com and look me up in the search engines. I'm there. If you can't find me, then look the book up, it will pop up for you.
After going to Smashwords I went to Amazon Kindle and put them up there, and then to Create Space where I made all my own print covers and put the books out as print, and they are gorgeous. I'm sure if you order one you will agree how nice they look.
I've gotten quite a few new covers. Wandering Heart has a new one, Strictly Business has a new one, Nick's Baby has a new one, Suspicions of the Heart has a new one.
Now, what else is new? I finished the Travers Brothers series, Along Came Love is now out. So if you need the last of the series find it at Smashwords.com in many formats and Kindle and at Amazon in print.
What else have I got to tell you? I have branched out and written 5 historical western romances. Now because this is a new genre I tried it on Smashwords first and no one seemed to know that I wrote historical westerns.
I have written five. Yes five. Two are out right now. One is with Whimsicalpublications.com an e - publisher and one is with Decadent Publishing.
Jodi's Journey was my first western, it went to Whimsical Publications. the second one is Beyond the Dream Catcher and it is with Decadent Publishing.
I have three more coming out soon and will be filling yo in on that soon too.
Why did I switch genre's I love the American western. I think it is so romantic. I hope you will try a couple and see for yourself.
Jodi's Journey is a sweet western romance with lots of action. Beyond the Dream Catcher is sensual and been compared to Gunsmoke kind of writing. I'm proud of that.
My childrens's books are at Smashowrds and Amazon also.
So much goes into publishing and there can be so many hangups that cause you problems. But now, I am proud to say that most the money comes to me when I sell a book and my westerns are just now catching on so I feel eventually I will make good money from them.
My print books are lovelier than ever and I am very proud of them. Heart of the wild and Wandering Heart have both front and back covers that are sensational. On Heart of the Wild you'll get a glimpse of the Cascade mountains on the back. On Wandering Heart you'll see another nice cover on the back. Coop, front and back. The prices aren't outrageous, except on Nick's Baby and Striclty Business who I am still contracted with Publish America . When that contract runs out I'll be self publishing with a new cover for both.
The world of publishing is changing every day and in a lot of ways getting so much better.
As soon as my three other historical westerns come out I'll let you know. I am having so much fun writing them.
In contemporary I have another to finish up, Sweeter Than Wine which is a sequel to Heart of the Wild and also Mail Order Nanny is another sequel.
So I have many more stories to tell and I hope you stick with me for more exciting news.
