And recently, I wrote a children’s book, “Mourning Dove,” co-written with my mother. It is the true account of a conversation between backyard dove and human, and involves the first nature lesson a preschooler experiences (reluctantly). Another theme of "The Mourning Dove" involves respect for nature as passed through generations. We sent the manuscript to Tilbury House Publishers, who then replied lyrically:

“Dear Sara,

Thank you for sharing ‘Mourning Dove.’ It is a loving and peacefully connective story.

Our publishing list is very narrowly focused and limited to only two or three children’s books a year.”

Of course, it was rejected. Maybe word will spread to another publisher?
