Indifferent staff breeds complacent laity. Non-evangelistic pastors bring along few outreach minded members. Leaders portraying a lack of purpose only propagates a church following that drifts -- one that longs to find its way but can’t.

Article: Developing Leadership Skills

Strong leadership signals a vibrant church. Throughout Biblical history, effective leaders have guided God’s people to significant heights in their journey with Christ. They did so because they possessed leadership skills beyond the ordinary.

Leaders possess these skills when they:
1. are able to communicate what they are saying,
2. lead by example,
3. have people responding to their leadership,
4. know where they are going.

Dos and don’ts associated with developing leadership skills:

1. Do commit to the long haul. Skills aren’t developed overnight.
2. Don’t neglect learning from your mistakes.
3. Do ask God to sharpen neglected or dulled deficiencies.

Article: Pastoral Miscues ... And How To Aoid Them

One of the unspoken truths about pastoring is that next to making a mistake you knew might not sit well with your new church, miscuing and not knowing is the worse. If you understood what you were doing was contrary to church polity, and chose to do it anyway, you should have expected the churches’ wrath. This boner is ministerial suicide. Most know to avoid such overt
errors. It’s the mistakes they commit without prior knowledge that haunts pastors. The only cure for escaping these blunders is to understand church expectations, seek advise on questionable
matters, and take nothing for granted..

(A) Example - How well is your congregation able to depend on teachers?

Lay leaders must be prompt, prepared, and possessed with spiritual vitality in any area they lead.
Spiritually, teachers cannot take people where they’ve never been themselves. They also must be able to be trusted. Another way to chart this quality is to ask, “Where does the strongest Christian example in your church fall on this chart? More than likely, the rest of your lay teachers fall one or two points below him or her.

(B) Ability - How capable are your lay leaders in leading?

Spiritual gifts are essential to effective influence. Do teachers know their spiritual gifts? If so, are
they in positions where gifts are being used? Key lay teachers must possess the spiritual gift of leadership. How do you know? Do people follow them?
