July 11, 1905 - A group of African American intellectuals and activists, led by W.E.B. Dubois, founded the Niagara Movement in Niagara Falls, Canada. A forerunner of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the movement was formed to fight racial discrimination in the US.

Did You Know? The Mona Lisa measures less than 2 feet by 2 feet.
Did You Know? Women were banned by royal decree from using hotel swimming pools in Jidda, Saudi Arabia, in 1979.

Did You Know? A balloon released into the jet stream would take two weeks to travel completely around the globe.

NOTE: Please ALWAYS read the guidelines and terms for any of the writing sites given here.
The Writer's Pocket Tax Guide is revised and published early each year to provide you with the latest and most accurate information in a form that is easy to understand. Since 1994 the Writer's Pocket Tax Guide has been distributed primarily through the Internet, which allows for a faster and wider distribution than was previously possible. This year the Guide is available free on the World Wide Web. The Writer's Pocket Tax Guide is written primarily for freelance writers. In this guide you will not have to wade through details of the tax treatment of retail sales, nor will you find anything here on employee business deductions. Employers' taxes and how self-publishers handle their taxes are also left to other guides.
We publish in three main areas: (1) self-help books for children and teens, (2) enrichment activities for classroom teachers and youth workers, and (3) books on successful parenting and teaching strategies. Our award-winning books are recognized and respected for providing creative, practical resources. Ongoing needs include nonfiction titles in topic areas. We do not accept fiction or picture storybook manuscripts. We also do not publish books with religious or New Age content, single biographies or autobiographies, or books with animal characters. Query before sending full manuscripts.
Electric Wine is published six times per year. We publish science fiction, fantasy, and horror. We are interested in art, stories, poetry, and articles that would be of interest to readers of these genres (such as reviews of movies, books, or conventions, scientific or historical essays, and articles about the business). We are primarily interested in stories from 1,000 to 5,000 words, but will publish one story per issue that is 5,000 to 15,000 words. Please note that we are NOT interested in fiction or poetry that is media-related (i.e., Star Trek) or based on role-playing adventures with character types that may be copyrighted by gaming companies.
Talebones is the quarterly in-house magazine of Fairwood Press featuring dark science fiction and dark fantasy from established and up-and-coming writers. It is fiction with a dark slant, stories and poems with punch — sometimes experimental or psychological, sometimes laced with black humor. Herein you'll find information on the current issue, ordering, excerpts from the publication, and connection points to places of interest for our readers and their friends. Please take your time and
browse about the site. If you have comments or questions, look in the CONTACT section for ways and proper methods of getting in touch with our organization.
Outside is a monthly national magazine dedicated to covering the people, sports and activities, politics, art, literature, and hardware of the outdoors. Although our features are usually assigned to a regular stable of experienced and proven writers, we're always interested in new authors and their ideas. In particular, we look for articles on outdoor events, regions, and activities; informative seasonal service pieces; sports and adventure travel pieces; profiles of engaging outdoor characters; and investigative stories on environmental issues.
Cats magazine is a monthly, national consumer magazine for the cat enthusiast. It has a circulation of approximately 100,000 per month. It is available by subscription, sold in some retail stores and on newsstands. Our readers generally have more than one cat, and have been cat owners for several years. If you are submitting a query for a feature article, it should include an outline of the article and a brief explanation of why this would be of interest to Cats. Include a list of the people you plan to interview (very important!). You should also include samples of your previously published work, if possible.

Time’s Tide -

A lot of people have discovered that they can make a little extra money by auctioning off on the internet those extra knick-knacks they have lying around. After all, as the saying goes, one person's trash is another's treasure. But sometimes, trash is just trash. This site is dedicated to the research and study of the most bizarre items found for sale on internet auction sites. Not the obviously fake auctions, like the infamous human kidney, but truly tacky stuff that people really, honestly, believed that someone would (and in some cases did) buy.
We are in this business to foster the receiving of the absolute best present in the world--the one gift your family, loved ones, friends and co-workers want most--your recognition, appreciation, love, and respect. This is your opportunity to celebrate people you care about. Joan Breiner and Susyn Reeve founded Both are successful entrepreneurs and best friends. Both women knew from first hand experience not only how difficult it was to make a memory book but also how gratifying it was to receive one. Collecting entries and contributions from family and friends who were spread out across the country was so difficult they decided there had to be a better way. Research soon revealed that no easy solution existed in printed or electronic form. was formed to fill those gaps.

The idea for began as an art project. I kept noticing that a lot of older men who grew beards and still sported longish hair began to resemble The Gambler, Kenny Rogers. This is not a bad thing, it just happens to be the case. Every once in awhile I noticed that someone looked as though they were trying extra hard to look like Kenny. I decided I should start taking pictures of these guys and make a huge art installation. Of course, then the web came along and provided the perfect outlet for such foolish endeavors. Once I figured out how to make these stupid web pages, I realized the time had come to launch my dream. Some people dream of large homes with hot tubs and their own beer tap. Others dream of yachts and fine wine. Me? A good photo of some guy with silver hair, a little on the long side, and a neatly trimmed beard. That and the good fortune to have my camera nearby.

Julie Lewis has another Webseed Publishing site to share:
This site is concerned with atheism existing alongside spiritual belief. It will cover these topics both separately and jointly. Those who are strongly pro-deity may find the spiritual articles of interest, whereas those who are disbelievers in all things supernatural will no doubt prefer the articles on atheism. Those who subscribe to both viewpoints should enjoy all the articles.
