Peace in the Town by Belén Lucas

In a country, a town is there, in the middle of the jungle.

In it, all was serene, the birds sang, the children played near the river and the men hunted.

All of them lived in peace.

One day, the life of the town changed. The children stopped playing, the birds stopped singing

and already almost there were not hunters. All of them asked to themselves what happened.

A war was near to begin. The enemies had captured the north of the country.

In a week they would be in the town. In the distance already could be seen columns of smoke coming from the other populations that already had been taken, plundered and then burned.

The elders went walking without food. Death approached...

All they were frightened and already nobody slept.

The men armed traps, the moms sought after hideouts for their children and the old men went far away. Only an elder man did not be afraid and told to his town:

-If we want peace, we ought to speak..

The town responded positively, the men began to cover the traps, the moms to arm beds

to lodge the invaders and the grandparents returned to take care of their grandchildren.

One morning they felt noises of horses approaching.

Already it was all prepared and the elder waited for the enemies at town's entrance.

-¿What have we done? -The elder man shouted. All they stopped, remaining in silence.

-¿What do you want of us? -The elder man asked again.

A voice was listened: -The north of the country insulted us.

-And ¿What we have to we do with that?

-Nothing, but.. .

-¿What do you want then?

-Something like...

-We can offer you only the most delicious cakes done by the moms, the most sweet tales, narrated by ours elderly, the tenderness of our children, the fruits of our forest and a lot, but a lot of love..

-¡Yes! -The invaders exclaimed. Then they dismantled the army and organized a great festival to celebrate the agreement. Again the town was in peace.

The birds sang, the children played near the river and the men enjoyed life.

Peace and serenity had returned to the town.

La Paz en el Pueblo

Belén Lucas de 5º año EGB

Colegio Santa María

Pehuajó

Argentina

POEM: R K Singh, India

The disorder in my inner world betrays the tensions outside:
the anger over fanaticism and loss of ideals, politics and corruption
the degeneration all-round and struggle for survival amidst lying and conniving
and these burdens, death of desires, drugs, orgies, promiscuities
the piggish chaos oozing from the system like an ancient wound;

I can't suffer the crises I haven't authored even in thought
I can't endure aches of incompletion, dark void that sounds aloud
in my sleep I can't see my innocence afflicted by mirror
eating into my soul, ingesting my own body for something
there is neither consolation nor forgiveness, but negation

I'm belittled as man, degraded constantly in fire of inner effigies
or everyone is demeaning with intimate doubts and mutual mockery?
