Hello, do you love books? Want to read about your favorites?

It's Only Ink! Children's Book Review Newsletter is for children's book reviews. My name is Jennifer LB Leese. I am an author of children's picture books, young adult gothic, fantasy novels, and paranormal romance novels. I am also a children's book reviewer, copyeditor, freelance writer, and feature article writer and managing editor for the local Picket News. As a book reviewer, I have many authors, publishers, and publicists sending me tons of books for review. Because of this, I tend to get overloaded and have no where to send the reviews. So, I decided to put together this newsletter through AuthorsDen to get some of the waiting reviews out there and in the public.

Feel free to pass this invitation on to others. Thanks, and enjoy.

Sarah V. Richard's book IS CHRISTMAS COMING? a splendid book for children. In this book, an anxious little boy counts down the days 'til Christmas. He wakes every morning wanting to know if Christmas has come. His mommy tells him each day how many days are left until the big day.

The vivid, full-color illustrations begin with a decorated Christmas tree with 10 wrapped presents under it's glistening branches. With each day that passes, one present goes away. Not only will children learn to count from 1 to 10 in a creative way, they will also enjoy the amazement and excited behavior of the main character. The pictures and bouncy, rhyming text, give the book a charming appeal as it encourages conversations between reader and listener.

Richard's educational book, full of merriment, is a book that teachers and parents alike will want to read every Christmas season.

IS CHRISTMAS COMING? is highly recommended by this reviewer and her three children.

Hank Wesselman, professor of anthropology has put together a spirited rendition of an old classic. In LITTLE RUTH REDDINGFORD AND THE WOLF, Little Ruth Reddingford wants to visit her grandmother. Because her grandmother can't pick her up for their weekly visit, Ruth heads off through the woods by herself. Confronted by school bullies, Ruth runs to her grandmother's house. When a white spirit wolf and a Hopi stick enter the picture, Ruth's Native American background adds an imaginative twist to the story.

Raquel Abreu's vivid full-color illustrations bring Wesselman's words to life. Great for ages 3-8, LITTLE RUTH REDDINGFORD AND THE WOLF would make a wonderful addition to any library—public, home, or school. This reviewer enjoyed reading this wonderful book to her children.

Elvis fans will relish Laura J. Henson and Duffy Grooms picturebook TEN LITTLE ELVI. As an Elvis fanatic, I found Henson & Grooms book absolutely adorable. Not only will children learn to count backwards from 10 to 1, they will also get a good laugh out of this book. Each page features little Elvis impersonators such as GI Elvis, Karate Elvis, and Blue Suede Shoes Elvis as well many more little kings. The vivid, full-color illustrations by Dean Gorissen adds to the bouncy, rhyming text, giving it a comical appeal while encouraging conversations between reader and listener.

This reviewer highly recommends TEN LITTLE ELVI for children in Pre-K through 2nd grades, as well as for Elvis fans, any age, everywhere!

Many parents feel that grandparents spoil their children. But what do the children think?

Henry knows that his grandma spoils him, but he isn't sure if she spoils him with love or with buying him things. He calls her whenever he gets angry. She cuddles with him as they watch scary movies together, and she hugs him when he is hurt. What do you think Henry decides?

The text is easy-to-read, bouncy, and children can easily relate to the situations in the book. Parents and grandparents will love the questions, comments, and feelings that their children will be left with upon finishing the book. Children will love the vibrant full-color illustrations by Bill Megenhardt that are fun and creative. This delightful, heartwarming book would work wonderfully for teachers as a "read-out-loud" book on Grandparent's Day.

This reviewer and her children highly recommends GRANDMA SPOILS ME by Mary H. Wright for children ages 2 and up and suggests that you purchase a copy to share with your children. This book would make a loving and most-cherished gift.

Simple, cute and easy-to-read, THE GIANT CHICKEN MYSTERY is a winner. This book is small five-chapter book and #3 in a series of four, and it is the story of three little cousins in search of why the chicken crossed the road.

While waiting on a bench beside the store where Sarah-Jane’s mother entered, Timothy, Titus and Sarah-Jane wait. After a while, they decide to use Sarah-Jane’s book certificate she earned while at the reading program that summer in a nearby bookstore.

After reading a few jokes in a riddle book they had purchased, Sarah-Jane tells the ‘ole joke of why did the chicken cross the road. Then to her surprise, she actually watches as a giant chicken crosses the road!

When the three cousins find a red feather on the ground, the mystery begins. From there they search for the answer, and soon find it after visiting the Little Red Hen bakery across the street.

Where did the giant chicken come from? And why was it crossing the road? Find out by reading THE GIANT CHICKEN MYSTERY by Elspeth Campbell Murphy today.

Ms. Murphy’s writing style is clear and simple for the ages it is intended for. Although there are a few tough words for children ages 6-8 to read on their own, they should have no problem figuring the words out with the help of a parent or teacher. The delightful illustrations are brilliantly colored and are sure to keep your child’s attention throughout the book.

THE GIANT CHICKEN MYSTERY should be in all classrooms as a fun, moral teaching book. My children enjoyed it, and after I read it, my six year old son, Cameron gave it a try on his own and he was proud (as am I) of how far he actually read without my help.

The author, Elspeth Campbell Murphy has more than 100 books published. She is a full-time writer and graduated from Trinity College and Moody Bible Institute. Ms. Murphy lives in Chicago, Illinois with her husband.

The illustrator, Nancy Munger has become one of the best-known children’s illustrators in the CBA market. Ms. Munger lives in Michigan wither family.

Give your child a boost in ego by giving them all of Ms. Murphy’s books featuring the young cousins to read. You won’t regret it.

This reviewer highly recommends YOUNG COUSINS MYSTERIES: THE GIANT CHICKEN MYSTERY by Elspeth Campbell Murphy.
